USDA Discontinues Valuable 2024 Cotton & County Crop Yield Estimates
“The decision to discontinue these surveys and reports was not made lightly, but was necessary, given appropriated budget levels,” the release stated. The official announcement concludes with the following statement: “NASS is the federal statistical agency responsible for producing official data about U.S. agriculture and is committed to providing timely, accurate and statistics in service to U.S. agriculture.”
Last Thursday, April 9th, USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) announced that it is canceling their Cotton Objective Yield Survey, as well as all County Estimates for Crops and Livestock beginning with the 2024 production year.
Many organizations – both public and private – count on “official government data” to supplement their own intelligence gathering. While TMAI and our partners at the University of Kansas have access to other data sources for our crop yield forecasting, we are curious to know how this decision by the USDA affects your business.
